Is taking celebrex (400mg) a day for the long term detrimental to health?

I was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis the stadium early and my doctor has prescribed the long-term consumption of Celebrex, even if the pain? at this stage still bearable. ? this necessary? What are the benefits to do so?

I dont know what your condition is but I would say from my wife taking that crap is yes it will mess you up.
she suffers from SEVERE pain from tumors and four years later after, oxycodone, methadone and fentanil patch they mix up a concoction of muscle relaxers, anxiety, among others and the celebrex is the worst, she can rarely get out of bed.
Five years ago she was 25 and fit, happy loved to camp hike anything outdoors, now she is so down she rarely gets out of the house and some days bed.
I would strongly recommend that you research your disease, and educate your self in regards to alternative medicine, change your diet, as this plays a big role on what is going on. Chck the PH of your body, my wife was more alkaline than when she got ill it went acidic. She craves sweets.
Best thing i am told is to drink the juice of one lemon every am.
Then eat alkaline inducing foods, avoid sweets at all cost.
Sure hope this helps, try and avoid the drugs.

John,
First of all, friend, be assured that ALL medications have the POTENTIAL to cause side effects. This means that there is no perfectly harmless drug. With this however, we still have to take our medication or else suffer the consequences, which normally would be more damaging than the side effects. Also, to minimize the risks of untoward effects, be consistent with how you are instructed to your medications. Be a good patient!
As to specifically Celebrex, there are concerns of its potential to cause damage to blood vessels and stroke as its cousin Vioxx, to those predisposed people like those suffering from heart and nerve diseases. However, unlike the latter, Celebrex’s potential to cause such damage is not backed by solid clinical studies. Meaning, it is safe as per available data.
I would query my doctor to eliminate doubts in my mind, if I were you, specially if you are concerned with your medicine’s side effects.
Now, as a good patient, take Celebrex as instructed by your doctor. Inform him of ANY suspicions of side effects. I would also take it with food even if does not suppose to cause stomach irritation. Nothing wrong with being too careful. Lastly, tell your doctor/pharmacist if you are to take/taking other medications to avoid interactions.
Hope this helps.
Albert

I would not take it.Seems like every pill they prescribe now-a-days has adverse side effects on the body. There always saying if you have kidney or liver problems don’t take this medication. So in my book these pills can’t be good for your kidneys and liver at all. And will give you problems if you take them over a long period of time.
